JAKE Wright reaches a milestone for Oxford United tomorrow and a change in tactics have boosted his chances of finally opening his goalscoring account.

The U’s skipper is set to make his 250th appearance for the club when they visit Mansfield Town.

He has never scored, but after repeated requests to go forward for set pieces fell on deaf ears, the centre back has now been let loose.

Wright acknowledged a goal was overdue.

“It is, but give me a bit of credit, I’ve only been up for about four corners,” he said.

“I hate going to see kids at schools, because they always ask ‘how many goals have you scored?’ “I say ‘next question, I haven’t scored in nine years’, so I’d love to get a goal.”

He added: “I’ve been asking for about six years to go forward, but they’ve been saying I’m not quick enough to get back.

“We’ve got Joe Skarz and George Baldock who are really quick, so I think it’s better they’re at the back and I’m up there.

“I like causing a bit of trouble.”
