North Leigh got their promotion bid back on track with a super 3-1 victory away to Yate Town in the Evo-Stik Southern League on Saturday.

After two successive defeats in Division 1 South & West, the Millers bounced back thanks to goals from Zak Westlake, Jamie Cook and George Seacole.

However, Mark Gee’s side made a bad start, going behind in the third minute when Yate striker Lewis Powell held off Westlake’s challenge to shoot past keeper James Foster.

North Leigh equalised in the 24th minute when Lance Williams headed Stuart Hole’s free-kick on to Westlake, who finished with a right-foot shot.

The Millers regained the lead in the 68th minute when Cook stabbed home from Elliott Osborne-Ricketts’s left-wing cross.

Yate flooded forward looking for an equaliser, but the game was put beyond them on 83 minutes when Millers’ substitute Seacole crashed home a right-foot shot.

Didcot Town, who led 2-0, were denied a fourth successive win in 2016, when visitors Shortwood United made it 2-2 four minutes from time.

After Nick Peare missed a good chance for Shortwood, Didcot took the lead in the 43rd minute when Marvin Martin played in Mark Janes, who drove fired past keeper Tom King.

The Railwaymen doubled their lead in the 62nd minute when George Reid netted after good work by Janes.

Didcot’s two-goal lead last just minutes when Andy Lewis’ effort snuck between a post and the diving Leigh Bedwell.

With just four minutes remaining, the visitors earned themselves a point when substitute James Singh tapped in from close range.

Two goals from Darius Browne gave Banbury United a 2-0 victory at Wimborne, which moved them up to third.

After Ricky Johnson had headed just over and Mark Bell fired a shot against a post, Banbury took the lead in the 34th minute.

Bell’s cross was nodded down by Johnson to Browne who knocked the ball home from six yards.

Banbury’s second goal arrived in the 61st minute when Felipe Barcelos took a quick throw-in to Bell.

He crossed low to Browne who back-heeled the ball over the line.
