Wantage Town manager Stuart Cattell believes his side’s quest for survival could hinge on the result of their match at home to fellow strugglers Burnham tomorrow afternoon.

The Alfredians are one place and five points above their guests in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West and Cattell senses a chance to deal a decisive blow in the relegation battle.

“It’s a huge game for us and one we’ve got to look to be winning,” he said.

“Burnham have got to beat us, so there’s more pressure on them, but we’re the home team and that brings pressure of its own.

“It would be a huge lift for everyone at Wantage and I think it would have the opposite effect on Burnham too.

“We know how big it would be, because eight points is a lot to overcome at this stage.”

But Wantage have problems up front after striker Jimmy Deabill left the club to join Kidlington, following hot on the heels of top scorer Ben Whitehead’s departure for Chippenham Town, and coming less than two months after his move from Didcot Town.

Cattell said: “We’re disappointed, because we worked so hard to get him to Wantage.“It’s a big blow to lose Jimmy so soon after losing Ben, but it’s no good us stewing on it.”

Didcot Town travel to second-placed Taunton Town looking to protect their unbeaten record in 2016 and continue their push for a play-off place.

Manager Andy Ballard believes their title-chasing hosts are the example for his side to follow.

He said: “They are where we want to be.

“It might be a bit unrealistic at this stage in the season for us to be targeting those positions, but we’ve beaten other teams in and around the play-off places, so we have form.”

Midfielder Jack Powell is Didcot’s only absentee as he completes his three-match suspension.

Banbury United welcome back Zac McEachran and Miles Welch-Hayes for the visit of struggling Bridgwater Town.

However, the Puritans are without winger Mark Bell, who is unavailable.

George Seacole remains North Leigh’s only absentee as they look to bounce back from a shock midweek defeat to Marlow with a home fixture against Wimborne Town.
