OXFORD City are expected to field their latest new signing Godfrey Poku when they make the short trip to face Didcot Town in their first pre-season friendly tonight.

Poku, a holding midfielder who has Conference National experience with Luton Town and Woking, has signed a one-year contract.

Fellow new signings Tom Winters, who has rejoined from Brackley Town, and centre half James Fawke – from Cinderford Town – will be keen to impress City’s joint-managers Justin Merritt and Danny Nichols.

Ryan Brooks marked his return to Didcot Town with a brace as they defeated Slough Town 4-1 on Saturday.

Brooks, who is back after a season with Uhlsport Hellenic League champions Kidlington, scored a second-half double for the Railwaymen with Mark Janes and Taylor Janes also getting on the scoresheet.

Didcot player-manager Andy Ballard made three more signings before the game.

Nick Thorne has returned to the club, while Sam Barder and Harry Whitehead have joined from Wantage Town.

Banbury United lost 3-1 at home to a strong Eastleigh side in their first friendly.

The Vanarama National League outfit took the lead midway through the first half when a cross from Jai Reason was turned into his own net by Declan Benjamin.

Three minutes later another cross from Reason was headed home by former Oxford United striker Yemi Odubade.

The Puritans reduced the deficit three minutes before half-time via the second own goal of the game.

But the visitors completed the scoring in the 58th minute, when a lob from former Oxford City player Luke Coulson went over Jack Harding and into the net.

Banbury visit Midland League Premier Division side Coventry Sphinx in their second friendly tonight.

Ardley United manager Paul Davis has made three new signings ahead of their Uhlsport Hellenic League campaign.

Goalkeeper Lee Farrow, formerly of Thame United, Wantage Town, Abingdon United and Hook Norton, has joined the Premier Division outfit.

Davis has also signed midfielder Adam Morris and striker Matt Cruse, who scored 19 goals in 28 games for Buckingham Town last season.

Cruse scored in Ardley’s 7-1 friendly win at Old Woodstock Town on Saturday.

Ardley led 4-0, at half-time thanks to goals from Elias Katsoloudi (2), Troy Bryan and Luke Cray.

Cray, Cruse and Reece Bayliss completed the scoring in the second half.
