MICHAEL Appleton plans to keep Marvin Johnson at left back for as long as the winger is “causing mayhem” from a deeper role.

Joe Skarz is fit to return against his former side Rotherham United in the Emirates FA Cup today, but during his absence with a back injury Johnson has impressed.

Appleton said: “The only issue Skarzy’s got is there’s someone in incredible form who is playing at left back.

“We have an opportunity at some point to push Marv up the pitch and we’ll do that when we feel we’re ready.

“But at the minute he’s causing mayhem as a left back and is continually creating opportunities for the team from that position.”

United have no new injury concerns, but would be light in attacking areas if a deal cannot be done in time to re-sign Tyler Roberts on loan from West Bromwich Albion.

Rotherham have an injury doubt over skipper Lee Frecklington (ankle), while Greg Halford was sold to Cardiff City yesterday.

Goalkeeper Lee Camp has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee problem.

Striker Izzy Brown, who has been one of Rotherham’s shining lights this season, has been recalled by parent club Chelsea.
