A LATE goal denied Banbury United, who were held to a pulsating 3-3 draw by hosts Farnborough Town in the second qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Trophy on Saturday.

The Puritans fought back from 1-0 down to lead 3-2 against their fellow Evo-Stik League Premier Division hosts, but conceded an equalisaer 12 minutes from time.

Farnborough took the lead in the 21st minute when Perry Coles took the ball around Banbury keeper Jack Harding and slottedinto an empty net.

The visitors equalised in the 56th minute when Luke Carnell headed home from a corner.

The visitors went ahead three minutes later when Conor McDonagh scored with a diving header from a Tom Winters cross.

But seconds later, it was 2-2 when Nick Ciardini’s low shot from a narrow angle found its way past Harding.

In an entertaining second half, Mike Ford’s side regained the lead when McDonagh again headed home from another Winters cross.

Farnborough pushed forward in search of an equaliser, which came in the 78th minute through Coles.

The Puritans held on for a draw and a home replay tomorrow night.

A spectacular free-kick by Dan West gave Thame United a 1-0 win at home to Worthing, of the Bostik League Premier Division.

The deadlock was broken in the 57th minute, when West was fouled 25 yards out l.

He picked himself and curled the free-kick around the wall to score.

West and Ellis Hercules had further good chances for Thame, who progress to previous uncharted territory by reaching today’s third qualifying round draw.
