BANBURY United have released striker Conor McDonagh in a surprise move.

The former Oxford City forward, who rejoined the Puritans for a second spell in September 2016, was the Evo-Stik South League side’s second leading scorer this season.

“We released Conor on Tuesday,” said Banbury boss Mike Ford. “In a way, he’s a little unlucky.

“He’s done brilliantly for us, but I thought we needed something a bit different.”

McDonagh, who is expected to join Kidlington, is one of two changes the squad for Banbury’s Premier Division trip to Slough Town tomorrow.

The Puritans will be without Jack Finch after he picked up a knee injury in last week’s win over Gosport Borough.

“We are looking forward to the game,” said Ford. “Playing on a 3G pitch against a good side, you want to test yourself against the best and Slough are right up there.

“There’s lots of incentive for us to do well. I want us to finish as high as we can to show prospective players that we are ambitious and have a good reputation. The higher we finish, the easier it should be for me to attract new players in the summer, because good players want to play in good teams.”
