MARK Jones is well aware a tricky start to Oxford City’s season will get no easier tomorrow, writes MARK EDWARDS.

However, the manager’s message to his players is simple – keep believing.

City have picked up just one point from their opening two matches and have failed to score.

They travel to Woking tomorrow, with the hosts buoyed by two straight wins and are likely to be among the front-runners for promotion.

But Jones retains the faith that City can provide a stern test.

“We are fully aware that our start has not been exactly what we wanted, but we are not fearing anyone,” he said.

“We have got two tough games coming up against Woking and then Torquay, but you play the team in front of you, not the size of the club.”

He added: “We believe in what we are doing and that’s the message to the players.

“We did well against some of the bigger teams last season, so there’s no reason why we can’t again.”

City name an unchanged squad, although Jones may tweak the system against opponents who boast a plethora of players with pace.

“We will have a good look at how we are set up,” he said.

“It would be naive of us to go there and try to be expansive thinking we can blow away a side who have some very good players and who have started the season very well.

“I have been pleased with us defensively so far, but clearly the problem has been scoring goals.

“However, you have got to have trust in your attacking players to find the net – and I do.

“Matt Paterson proved he can do that last season and hopefully we can get that monkey off our back at Woking.”
