OXFORD City boss Mike Ford has hailed the appointment of former Oxford United No 2 Mark Harrison as the club’s new coach, writes NICK FARRANT.

Ex-goalkeeper Harrison, 49, replaces ex-U’s midfielder Paul Wanless who only joined the Southern League Premier Division club in June.

Harrison played for Southampton, Port Vale and Stoke among others.

Before joining United he was goalkeeping coach at Everton.

Ford said: “It’s a shame Paul is leaving, but he was struggling to commit himself full-time.

“He was offered a scouting job with a Football League club, so he decided to do that.

“I’ve kept in contact with Mark and he was desperate to get back into football.

“He still lives locally and I’m chuffed to bits to get someone of his experience.

“He didn’t take him long to make up his mind. I think we’ve got lucky.”

Meanwhile, former City defender Andy Gunn has rejoined Didcot Town.

Didcot manager Stuart Peace was delighted, saying: “Andy has played for me before and he’s a terrific talent, so I’m delighted to have got him here.”

l WITNEY United have re-signed defender Jon Steedman from Abingdon Town.
