FOOTBALL: Elliott's strike is just enough

Although the 1-0 scoreline indicates that the game against the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West basement boys Stourport was closely-fought, in reality North Leigh dominated most of the contest.

But they just could not find the back of the net.

Apart from the goal in the first half, the hosts hit the woodwork four times and missed a penalty.

Stourport’s best spell came early on when North Leigh keeper Sam Warrell made two point-blank saves.

The only goal came in the 22nd minute, when a corner was taken short by Toby Clark to Brian Bowles, whose pinpoint cross was nodded home by Elliott Osborne-Ricketts.

James Organ and Michael Hopkins were both denied by the woodwork before the break.

In the 53rd minute, North Leigh were awarded a penalty for handball, but Stuart Hole’s spot-kick was saved.

Morgan Williams and Osborne-Ricketts both struck a post with fierce shots.

A fine late save by Warrell from Stourport’s Tim Jacuson ensured all three points for the hosts North Leigh: Warrell, Hole, Organ, Clark, Franklin, Caton, Reardon (Mills 69), Bowles (Sanders 84), Williams (Burnell 79), Osborne-Ricketts, Hopkins. Sub not used: Willoughby.

Attendance: 64.
