FOOTBALL: Rowe double lifts Wantage

Tom Rowe bagged a brace as Wantage Town set up an FA Cup first-qualifying round trip to Oxfordshire rivals North Leigh with a 4-1 hammering of Hartley Wintney.

Tom Butler put Wantage ahead on 26 minutes and two minutes later, Rowe made it 2-0.

Rowe completed his brace on 63 minutes before Brad Chalmers (74) made it 4-0 before Jeffreys clawed one back.

Ardley United crashed 6-2 at Newport Pagnell Town.

Matt Broomes (2), Darren Dykes and Dom Lawless did the damage for the hosts, with Steve Howkins scoring a double for Ardley, one of which was a penalty.

Late on, Newport were reduced to ten men when Dave Baker was sent off for tangling with Howkins, but it made little difference.

Shrivenham lost 2-0 against Bracknell Town, for whom Shane Cooper-Clarke and James Rogers netted.

Abingdon Town went down to a 5-0 defeat at Cinderford Town.

Matt Barnes, Lewis Sommers, Dale Evans, Craig Tait and Karim Rendell completed Abingdon’s miserable day.
