MITCHELL Meredith bagged a brace as Thame United were pushed all the way by Clanfield before running out 3-2 winners in the FA Carlsberg Vase first qualifying round at the ASM Stadium.
Meredith equalised with a penalty after Steve Olphert had given Clanfield the lead from a free-kick. Dan West put Thame ahead early in the second half only for Ben Williams to level.
But Meredith’s header booked Thame a home tie against Buckingham Athletic in the second qualifying round.
Bradley Gill grabbed a double in Shrivenham’s 3-0 home win over Hartley Wintney.
Josh Fowler was also on target for Shrivenham, who are now at home to Cheltenham Saracens after the Gloucestershire side thrashed Abingdon Town 5-1.
Ethan Moore (2), Simon Slender Jordan Bryan and Elliott Kennedy did the damage, with Ben Elwood replying for Abingdon. 2nd qualifying round draw: Fairford Tn v Hook Norton, Amersham Tn v Carterton, Kidlington v Bracknell Tn, Holmer Green v Witney Tn, Sandhurst Tn v Milton Utd, Cove v Wantage Tn, Shrivenham v Cheltenham Saracens, Chinnor v Ascot Utd, Thame Utd v Buckingham Ath. Ties to be played on Sept 15.
