FOOTBALL: Ford's keen to keep it going

Manager Mike Ford believes Oxford City’s impressive start to life in Blue Square Bet North will help spur them on to even greater success this season, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

City’s boss has been impressed with the manner in which his players have adapted to a higher level of football.

And speaking after the excellent 3-1 win at Harrogate Town, he said: “We looked like a team that had learned a little bit from the previous seven games.

“If we pick up another three points on Tuesday that will be nine games, a fantastic start, and then we can go forward with confidence.”

Striker Declan Benjamin has five goals to his credit already this season after netting a brace against Harrogate. And Ford believes the midfielder has responded well to being played in a new position this season.

He said: “I’ve been playing him on the left, coming in on his right foot and he got two tap-ins today. Good goalscorers get tap-ins.

“There are obviously still parts of his game that could be improved, but he’s very wholehearted, very honest and very strong.”
