FOOTBALL: Banbury out on penalties
10:00am Wednesday 3rd October 2012 in Football
BANBURY United exited the FA Trophy after a penalty shootout defeat at Wimborne Town last night.
The Puritans equalised three times to force penalties at 3-3 after extra-time in their first qualifying round replay.
But they bowed out when Marvin Martin missed his sudden-death spot-kick.
Jamie Davidson put Wimborne ahead, but Igor Coronado levelled on the rebound after Jack Ashton’s penalty had been saved.
Steve Smith made it 2-1 before Banbury’s Luke Cray scored in stoppage time.
Davidson struck again in extra time, only for Cray to equalise, but Banbury could not quite finish the job.
Abingdon United were knocked out of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup with a 3-1 home defeat to Chesham United in the first round.
Michael Chennells’s hat-trick, including two penalties, put Chesham too far ahead before Luke Carnell pulled one back for Abingdon.
North Leigh travel to Sholing for tonight’s FA Trophy first qualifying round replay after being held 2-2 at home on Saturday.
Midfielder Michael Alexis is doubtful with an ankle injury.
