OXFORD City Lions could complete an historic league and cup double as they travel to St George’s Park in Burton for the grand finals of the FA National Futsal League today.

Lions claimed their first FA Futsal Cup last month at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.

And victory this weekend would secure a rare double triumph, as well as a place among Europe’s elite in the UEFA Futsal Cup.

“If we could win the double it would be one of the biggest things Oxford City have ever achieved,” said manager Enrique Guillen.

“It would mean we are undoubtedly the best team in the country.

“For a team like Oxford City to be at the very top in England would be special and to be able to challenge ourselves against the very best in Europe would be incredible.”

City face London Baku United in the semi-final, with the winners due to meet either Genesis or London Helvecia for the title.

Reigning champions Baku narrowly pipped Lions to the Super League South crown this season, but Guillen is confident his side can come out on top in what looks set to be a tough game.

He said: “It is a difficult semi-final, because they’ve won it before and are at full strength, but I’m quite confident.

“We’ve already beaten them once this year, so we go into it with confidence.

“We have no doubts about what we’re doing.”
