BANBURY United made it five games unbeaten in all competitions with a hard-earned point at fellow strugglers Paulton Rovers in the Southern League Premier Division.

Josh Shama had an early shot saved for bottom club Banbury in an uneventful first half, which also saw Aidan Hawtin flash a free-kick wide.

Banbury keeper Leigh Bedwell tipped Jon Davies’s cross-shot over the bar early in the second half. The Puritans’ best chance came 15 minutes from time when a Shama shot from just outside the penalty area was turned over by Kyle Phillips.

Both sides chased a winner in the last 15 minutes with Hawtin’s shot from the edge of the area saved by Phillips.

Bedwell then came to Banbury’s rescue with an excellent close-range stop.

Banbury’s Jordan Green was off target, but in the last seconds of the game Scott Wilson should have won it for Paulton when he raced through with only Bedwell to beat, but shot wide.

Banbury Utd: Bedwell, Cray, Martin, Westbrook, Fishwick, Ryan, Green, Hawtin, Shama (Howards 85), Talabi, Whitehead (Tappin 71). Subs not used: Walcott, Mzungwana, Hartigan.

Attendance: 142.
