Didcot Town came from behind to go through the next round of the FA Cup with an unconvincing 2-1 victory at Southern League Central side Northwood.

The Railwaymen, with Andy Ballard, Jack Longford and Mark Janes returning to the starting line-up, went behind after just four minutes when Michael Murray netted from close range.

Northwood’s pace and movement caused problems and only a scrambled clearance by James Organ prevented them making it 2-0.

After a shaky start, Didcot drew level after 19 minutes when when Andy Ballard’s long throw found Josh Dutton-Black, who headed home.

The visitors had to weather more Northwood pressure in the second half, before Didcot scored the winning goal in the 58th minute.

Good play by Dutton-Black forced a corner and Marvin Martin’s flag-kick was headed home by Adam Learoyd Didcot should have scored again after Northwood keeper Barkley Laurencin miskicked a back pass to Janes, but he opted to pass instead of trying a shot himself.

Mark Janes. Janes had time and space to slot it passed the keeper and bury it home, instead opting to cut across face of goal to find Mark Francis who fires just wide.

Didcot’s Mark Francis had a goal disallowed in the 78th minute.

In the end, the Railwaymen were grateful to a diving save from keeper Leigh Bedwell from Mark Burgess’s 25-yard strike, for earning their place in today’s draw.
