GHANAIAN striker Martin Asiedu Ofosu was on target for Oxford City as they beat Chesham United 3-1 in a pre-season friendly at Amersham Town on Saturday.

The forward will get his first taste of English football with City in Vanarama National League South this season, having spent the earlier part of his career in Italy.

The former Novara, Calcio Lecco and Borgomanero striker netted City’s second goal to put them ahead for the second time in the match.

Conor McDonagh had opened the scoring early on, but they were pegged back just after the half-hour mark.

Ofosu restored their advantage before Tom Winters, returning to the club from Brackley Town, completed the scoring before the break with a spectacular 35-yard lob.

City named just four players who had been in the side the previous season following a summer of upheaval at the club.

Captain Darren Pond is the latest to leave, having turned down a contract offer last week.

“We had agreed a deal to keep him at the club, but nothing had been signed,” said general manager Justin Merritt.

“Unfortunately, during the close season we had a review of the structure and budgets and had to revise our offer to him.

“Over the last few seasons he hasn’t played too many games due to injury and we just felt that we need to get as much of the budget out on the pitch as possible.

“He goes with our best wishes, because he’s been a fantastic player and a great servant to the club.”

Banbury United regained the Ron Thomas Memorial Trophy with a 2-1 victory over neighbours Easington Sports.

Leam Howards headed home a Felipe Barcelos cross to open the scoring seven minutes into the second half, before Josh Rose levelled against the run of play with a strike from the edge of the area.

But Banbury ensured they would be taking home the trophy when Zac McEachran finished off an impressive passing move from ten yards out.

Didcot Town were defeated 3-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Hayes & Yeading United.

Ryan Brooks had a penalty saved for Didcot, with the hosts converting two spot-kicks of their own.

Dylan Kearney, Ish Ehui and Manny Williams netted for the home side.

Wantage Town were beaten 5-1 at home to Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side Bracknell Town.

Todd Hathaway scored their only goal.

Ian Davies scored a hat-trick for the visitors alongside goals from Jahson Downes and Ben Poynter.
