SUBSTITUTE Louis Soares struck a stoppage-time penalty to earn Oxford City an unlikely point from their Vanarama National League South match at home to bottom side Concord Rangers on Saturday.

With three minutes left, City trailed 2-0 and seemed to be heading for a fourth successive defeat.

A brilliant 87th-minute strike into the top-right corner from Reece Fleet gave City hope.

Then in injury time, Soares was fouled by Jack Lampe in the area, and then sent Concord keeper Ben McNamara the wrong way to snatch a draw.

Two quick goals in the first half had put City on the back foot.

They fell behind in the 32nd minute when Dean Mason’s corner was headed home by Lampe.

Four minutes later, the visitors made it 2-0 when Joao Carlos ran on to a through ball before lashing home.

In the second half, City’s Godfrey Poku set up Conor McDonagh who blasted over, and then saw his own free-kick strike the bar.

City felt it was not going to be their day, but their efforts were rewarded in a dramatic finish.
