CAPTAIN Lauren Haynes admitted Oxford United left it too late as they were beaten 2-1 at home to Everton in their FA Women’s Super League 2 Spring Series opener.

Ini Umotong netted an 88th-minute goal for the U’s, but the damage had already been done thanks to efforts from Simone Magill and Kelly Jones.

Haynes said: “Ini Umotong’s goal changed the game – but it came just a bit too late for us.

“Ini did great and, had there been another five minutes or so, we might have got back level.

“But we didn’t really get the ball to her enough and left ourselves with too much to do.”
