OXFORD City boss Mark Jones is hoping his side continue their impressive form to ensure they can go into next season on a high.

An excellent victory against high-flying Chelmsford last Saturday was followed with a 1-0 win at Gosport on Easter Monday.

Jones was delighted with the attitude of his players who have secured a mid-table finish in Vanarama National League South.

“It was a good Easter for us,” he said.

“You can’t do much more than win both games and keep clean sheets.

“Against Chelmsford, I thought we played the conditions perfectly.

“As we thought, the pitch was very poor, extremely hard and bumpy, but we gave a good exhibition on how to play on a very poor surface.”

City host relegated Margate tomorrow at Court Place Farm in their final home game of the season, and he is hoping for more of the same.

“We want to finish on a high now, and take that momentum forwards,” Jones said.

“The lads have pride in their own performances, and we need to put on a good display for the supporters in our last home game.

“It looks as though we will finish 14th, which although isn’t anything to get excited about, we have at least maintained our place in the league, which was one of the aims of the season.”

Striker Mike Fondop is likely to miss the last two games as he continues to struggle with a long-term hamstring injury.

“Mike’s not been right for a while,” Jones said.

“We had hoped he’d get back, but he’s just been struggling to shake it off, so we will probably be without him for the last two games.”

But despite missing Fondop, Jones has been pleased with their attacking threat in the last two weeks.

“The last couple of games we’ve shown a bit more threat going forwards,” he said.

“We’ve created a lot of chances and that shows in the results.

“Tomorrow will be tough because of the state of the pitch, but we want to finish well and try and progress as a club.

“I’m very ambitious myself and would hope next season to be challenging more towards the top end of the table.”
