Skipper Phil Gilchrist is convinced Oxford United will give someone a hiding soon - if they can just get that all-important first goal.

The U's battered Woking during the second half of their Boxing Day game in front of a record 11,065 attendance, but couldn't convert a host of chances and trooped off disappointed following the 0-0 draw.

And now United need to start turning their run of home games into wins if the chasing clubs are not to sense they can catch the long-time Conference leaders.

"At least in the second half we put on a performance," Gilchrist said. "In the first half we didn't really.

"To have that many people come along to watch was fantastic.

"It was disappointing we couldn't give them the win they wanted, but Woking were fighting for their lives.

"In the second half we were that close to giving someone a hiding, we just needed to get that first goal.

"The confidence started to flow again, being at home again helped because as we have said we've had a hell of a lot of away games.

"It was our first 90 minutes at home for a long time.

"In the second half we battered them. We should have scored and no-one's more disappointed that we didn't score than the players themselves.

"One day a goal will go in and then we'll give somebody a hiding.

"But on the plus side we've started to keep clean sheets and I'm sure it won't be long before we're back winning again."
