A last-gasp equaliser from Carterton's Steve Avenell denied Witney the perfect start to 2007 in yesterday's Sport Italia Hellenic League Premier Division game at Marriotts Stadium.

Early on, Tom Butler hit the Carterton bar, before Nando Perna scored the opener from the penalty spot after John McMahon was brought down.

After the break, Neil Maskell cleared off the line after Witney keeper Paul Tassell spilled a shot.

Cook flashed a short wide before Avenall lashed home the 90th minute equaliser to bring Witney's winning run to an abrupt halt.

North Leigh's title hopes suffered a big blow when they were held by the basement boys on Saturday in a 1-1 draw.

The hosts hit the woodwork three times inside the opening ten minutes.

But it was the visitors who went in front in the 32nd minute when Sam Jones fired home from 20 yards.

Six minutes later, however, Joe Burnell levelled.

Conditions deteriorated after the interval, and the table-toppers found it difficult to create further opportunities, with efforts from Liam Hope and Andy McCabe all being blocked as North Leigh were frustrated.

Luke Holden equalised five minutes from time to save leaders Ardley United from defeat in a 2-2 draw at Abingdon Town.

Holden stabbed home from a corner to deny the hosts a valuable win.

After a minute's silence for former Town secretary Ted Quail, who died just before Christmas, Ardley wasted no time in taking the lead, Phil Mason slotting home.

Ian Smith levelled for Abingdon in the 33rd minute, before Luke Beauchamp headed home five minutes after the break to put them ahead.

But Holden struck to leave honours even.

Milton goalkeeper Gareth Walker produced a superb display to earn his side a point in a 2-2 draw against Kidlington.

Against the run of play, Milton went ahead on the half-hour mark when Paul Davis slotted home.

Morgan Williams levelled five minutes after half-time, and James Deabill put Kidlington ahead in the 57th-minute.

Walker denied Chris Gilks and Denell Thomas, before Milton equalised through Matt Styles, despite an obvious foul in the build-up.

A goal in stoppage time from Jon Peters condemned Thame to a 3-2 defeat.

Things had looked good when Ben Connolly put the visitors in front after ten minutes.

Shrivenham hit back through Peters, but Nathan Jack's effort in the 55th minute restored Thame's lead as conditions deteriorated.

Martin Stratford levelled, before Peters popped up with the late winner.

Goals from Adam Hamp for Bicester and Rob Cruse for Witney were in vain as atrocious conditions at Bicester's Oxford Road saw the game against Witney United called off at the break.
