Hellenic League secretary Brian King last night refuted claims that Chipping Norton Town had resigned from the league.

Chairman Sean Robson had been quoted as saying that he was pulling the plug, but King told the Oxford Mail that nothing had been confirmed.

"I'm not really in a position to say one way or the other," said King.

"After speaking to the chairman, I had another conversation with someone else that put a slightly different slant on things.

"Until I get something that says 'Chippy are pulling out of the league' then they have not withdrawn.

"The likelihood is that they will pull out. I did ask for something in writing today and I can only hope that something will be done.

"At the moment, we've got a club that is sat waiting to play this weekend and I can't say whether or not they're are playing. It's a very difficult scenario."

King added: "If they are forced to fold I would have to say we have enjoyed having them with us.

"I can't say any more than that. I need them to come up with a decision. I'm not at liberty to go into any of the issues."
