LES Taylor hopes Oxford United will have reason to celebrate when they welcome Millwall Lionesses to Abingdon United’s Northcourt Road tomorrow (2).

If United’s men win promotion this afternoon, the women’s manager expects a party atmosphere for his side as they open their FA WSL Continental Cup campaign in the preliminary round.

“It could be a fantastic atmosphere, because obviously the men’s team could get promotion the day before,” said Taylor.

“You’d hope quite a few of the fans will come to our game and it’ll be a really good celebration if we can go on to the next round. It’s something which could really inspire them.”

Defender Rosie Lane (thigh) in unlikely to feature, but United are otherwise at full strength this weekend.

The U’s opened their FA Women’s Super League 2 campaign with a 5-3 home loss to Millwall only a few weeks ago.

That started a poor run of four successive defeats to open the season, but after picking up their first league points last weekend with a 1-0 victory over Sheffield, Taylor believes his side can avenge their defeat.

He said: “It was closer than what people might think because of the scoreline.

“We scored three good goals and I was disappointed we didn’t get anything from that.

“With the confidence we’ve gained from last weekend we’ll go into it as a different team and I expect it to be really close.

“They’re well organised, but we’ll have a really good go.”
