OXFORD City were left to rue missed opportunities in a 2-0 defeat at Hemel Hempstead Town.

A Godfrey Poku own goal and a Jake Robinson strike 18 minutes from time saw the hosts earn victory in Saturday’s Vanarama National League South clash.

After a quiet opening 15 minutes, City carved out the first chance, but Scott Davies saw his header saved by Hemel goalkeeper Jonny Henly.

The hosts responded and almost took the lead, with Jack Stevens pushing a James Potten effort round a post.

City broke away from the resulting corner, but Liam Enver-Marum was denied by Henly.

Hemel took the lead against the run of play on 30 minutes when Poku headed Graeme Montgomery’s free-kick into his own net.

Mitchell Weiss then almost doubled their lead, but Stevens tipped his header over the bar.

City pushed for an equaliser and forced two corners, but Robbie Cundy and Martin Asiedo Ofosu both missed the target.

Hemel were happy to contain City and they made the game safe on 72 minutes when Robinson fired into the corner of the net.
