GOALKEEPER Demi Lambourne is a role model for the rest of Oxford United’s young side, according to manager Les Taylor.

The 20-year-old stopper is due to feature between the sticks as the U’s host Aston Villa in FA Women’s Super League 2 at Abingdon United tomorrow (2), following a week-long jaunt to Los Angeles with England Under 20s.

Lambourne, who came through Oxford’s youth set-up, made her full debut for the Young Lionesses as they closed their triumphant NTC Invitational Tournament campaign with a 0-0 draw against South Korea.

And Taylor believes her achievement is good news for his side.

“She’s kept a clean sheet, so she’ll be full of confidence,” he said.

“I think it sends out a message to all the girls here that this is what you can achieve at Oxford.

“Demi should stand as a role model to everyone at the club, because she’s one of the top two goalkeepers in the country at her age.”

Lauren Haynes is the only doubt with an elbow injury, while Chloe Bruce has left the club due to work commitments.

The Villa match is Oxford’s first at home in almost two months, since they defeated London Bees 4-2 in front of a WSL 2 record crowd of 1,211.

And Taylor is hopeful his side will make the most of home comforts this weekend.

He said: “It’s nice to be back at home.

“It’s been a while and we’ve done a bit of travelling in the last few weeks with some long journeys to Durham and Everton.

“The last game we had here was a decent win, so we’ll remind the players of that and I’m sure everyone will go into the game feeling positive.”
