CHRIS Kamara was among almost 200 golfers who attended the official opening of Oxfordshire’s newest range.

The Sky Sports presenteris a friend of PGA professional Geoff Robbins, who owns Heathfield Park Driving Range and Teaching Academy at Bletchingdon with his wife Jo.

Also on hand was long drive specialist Scott Beaven, who represents Wokefield Park, near Reading.

He impressed spectators with a masterclass, with his best shots landing at the 330-yard mark.

There are plans to bring Beaven back regularly to give tips on how to hit the ball further.

But the highlight was provided by Tony Lloyd, from Telford.

The disabled golfer, who was born with arms which end at his elbows, plays by tucking the club under his left armpit.

Robbins said: “I have been around golf for a long time, but I haven’t seen anything like that before.

“To watch a guy who hasn’t got any arms hit the ball about 220 yards was inspirational.

“The whole day was a huge success and it was great to see so many people coming down to see the facilities.

“It’s good to help put a new place on the map and hopefully those who came enjoyed it.”

Robbins, 63, is hoping the range will attract plenty of novices keen to try the sport.

He said: “If you have someone who wants to take up golf it is not the easiest sport to learn on a course.

“I’ve been trying to play properly since 1958 and turned pro in 1966, but there’s nothing more soul destroying than taking a new player out on to a course.

“A range is much more enjoyable to learn on.”
