EDDIE Pepperell made an excellent start to his challenge at the Scottish Open.
The 25-year-old from Abingdon, who has missed the cut at his last four events, carded a two-under-par round of 70 to get within one shot of the early lead at Castle Stuart, near Inverness.
Pepperell opened up with nine successive pars, before making a move with birdies at the tenth and 11th.
A dropped shot at the 14th was the only blemish on his card, which was cancelled out by a birdie at the 16th.
The Frilford Heath member begins his second round at 1.40pm tomorrow.
