EDDIE Pepperell’s first round of the 2017 European Tour season was marred by two nightmare holes at Leopard Creek, South Africa.

The Abingdon golfer, who retained his card with an ultra-consistent six-round display at qualifying school last month, parred 13 of the 18 holes at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

But a double-bogey six at the tenth and triple-bogey seven at the 11th proved costly as Pepperell finished with a two-over-par total of 74.

Birdies at the first and eighth holes put him in good shape, before his nightmare back-to-back holes.

Pepperell pulled a shot back at the 15th, but has it all to do today to make the cut.
