EDDIE Pepperell endured a testing final two rounds as he finished the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in a tie for 42nd.
The Abingdon golfer was on the verge of the chasing pack after a four-under-par 68 on Friday.
However, a poor start to his third round with bogeys at two of the first three holes saw him drop well back.
Another dropped shot at the tenth was followed by two birdies, but another bogey undid his good work.
The Frilford Heath member picked up a further shot at the 17th, but his round ended poorly with a bogey-six at the last for a two-over round of 74.
On Sunday, Pepperell clawed a shot back with a birdie at the par-five fourth.
A bogey at the seventh halted his progress, but after ten successive pars he did pick up another shot at the 17th, leaving him on three-under for the tournament.
Pepperell still, however, picked up €31,056 for his efforts.
Francesco Molinari claimed victory on 17 under, holding off Rory McIlroy for the title.
