EDDIE Pepperell fired a sensational second round of 63 at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open today.

The Abingdon golfer's seven-under-par score saw him lie in second place at the conclusion of his round at Gullane GC in East Lothian.

Pepperell got off to a flying start with a birdie at the first hole and eagle on the second.

He picked up further shots at the fourth, sixth and eighth to reach the turn in just 29 shots.

A birdie at 11 was followed by a bogey at the 12th, his only dropped shot of the day.

But the Frilford Heath member fired another birdie on the 14th, followed by four pars to climb the leaderboard.

His two-round total of ten-under-par gives him a chance of claiming one of the three qualifying positions for next week's British Open.
