Oxford United reject Pirates' Constable offer

OXFORD United have rejected a bid for top scorer James Constable from Bristol Rovers.

The Pirates tabled a formal bid for the 27-year-old, but the club confirmed it had been turned down.

U's chairman Kelvin Thomas said: "Over the past season James has attracted interest from a variety of clubs and further interest is not really a surprise."

Constable finished as the U's top scorer last season with 11 goals, but struggled for form in the second half of the campaign, scoring just twice in his last 19 appearances.

In my opinion James was right to have been dropped, he will be refreshed come the 18th August. And start banging the goals in again

We still need to get some serious money for him. if we turned down £250k last time something near at least £200k would be what's needed

Unless we get lucky we a striker that is young and unheard of or a striker that has been released from a high league we ain't going to get any one good for that sort of money. Everything goes up in price even football players. We don't have the money to throw around so we can buy a striker for £500,000 that will score 20 a season. TC is back next season!

Tom Craddock is back? great...... the laziest player we have, admittedly he does score the odd goal but its nice to see our players putting the effort in.
