Bratt dominant at Brands F2 test

Banbury racing driver Will Bratt delivered an exceptionally strong performance during FIA Formula 2 Championship testing at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit.

Dominating yesterday's first two sessions with buffers of almost 0.3 seconds and more than 0.4 seconds respectively, the 22-year-old went on to head the final outing (in which the drivers are able to utilise the F2 ‘overboost’ power increase facility on the cars) into the closing minutes but was just pipped into second place at the finish.

Marking the most consistently competitive performance of the year for the Banbury driver, yesterday’s official test outing has given him a timely boost ahead of this weekend’s two races at the 2.3-mile Kent track – an event which carries huge importance for his 2010 championship hopes.

Bratt said: “It was a really good day overall, we were on it all day and everything felt great. The last session is always a bit unpredictable with the overboost but we were very strong in that run and headed the first two sessions quite comfortably so I’m very happy.

“The best thing about the test is that we were up there in the times all day. We benefited from some good experience in the wet during the morning – that was important as it’s possible we could have some rain at the weekend – and then in session two everything went really well. To head the second run by four tenths of a second was good going.”

He added: “We did exactly what we needed to, we were quick from the off and did a lot of good work ahead of the weekend. The Brands Hatch races are going to be really important, we need to carry forward the level of performance we’ve shown in this test and deliver it in qualifying and both races which I’m confident we can do.”

Two further practice sessions will be held at Brands Hatch this Friday, ahead of round 11 qualifying at 16.40. Race one will take place at 11.45 on Saturday, with qualifying for round 12 following at 15.50. Race two is then set to begin at 13.05 on Sunday.
