Wantage jockey Cathy Gannon was delighted as Ladyship provided her with her biggest winner in this country when landing a Listed contest at Chester.

She got the call-up to ride the four-year-old filly for Newmarket trainer Sir Michael Stoute in the Raymond Corbett Memorial City Plate, with big meetings across the country claiming the leading riders on a hectic Saturday.

And she made the most of the opportunity by bringing Lady-ship with a powerful late run to beat Rivas Rhapsody by half a length in the seven-furlong contest.

Gannon, who had ridden a Group 3 winner on Dingle View at the Curragh three years ago, said: “It was great – I was delighted.

“I have not had a Listed winner, so that was good. Hopefully I can go on from it and get a few better rides.”

Gannon (pictured) had spoken to Ryan Moore, Stoute’s stable jockey, beforehand about the filly.

“He just told me how to ride her and said drop her in and sit quiet on her and don’t be pulling her about, and everything worked out,” she added. “It was grand.”

Now Gannon is looking forward to partnering Alutiq for Eve Johnson Houghton, who trains at Blewbury, near Didcot, in the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury on Saturday.

Johnson Houghton, meanwhile, struck with Mappa Mundi at Ascot.

The two-year-old, owned by comedian Mel Smith and Anthony Pye-Jeary, came home a length clear of Tanzeel under Seb Sanders in a six-furlong maiden contest.

Johnson Houghton was back in the winner’s enclosure after John Fahy got 16-1 shot Starlight Symphony home by a short head in a fillies’ handicap over an extended mile at Windsor.

Paul Cole, who trains at Whatcombe, near Wantage, could also be represented in the Weatherbys Super Sprint by Meritocracy, who romped home by five lengths for Chris Catlin in a novice stakes at Chepstow.

Memory Styx, who had been second seven times in ten starts, made the 744-mile round trip to Hamilton from Mick Channon’s West Ilsley stables pay off by finally opening her account in a five-furlong maiden stakes, with Andrew Elliott in the plate.

Channon also struck with Reflected Love in a juvenile maiden at Epsom.
