Four Headington School pupils starred as Great Britain won eight gold, seven silver and five bronze medals at the 2013 Coupe de la Jeunesse in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Hannah Tomlinson, Helena Lang, Charlotte Cobb and cox Sasha Adwani were all in the GB women’s eight which took gold.

Tomlinson and Lang also raced in the coxless pairs and fours respectively, taking gold in both.

Meanwhile, the rivalry between Abingdon School and St Edward’s School, Oxford, whose first eights produced a record-breaking final in the Princess Elizabeth Cup at Henley Royal Regatta this year, will be set aside this weekend.

Three Abingdon boys, Joel Cooper, Matthew Carter and Ian Middleton plus two Teddies rowers, Oli Knight and Titus Morley, will all be in the Great Britain eight racing in the World Junior Championships in Trakai, Lithuania. The local connection also extends to the coach of the eight, John Gearing, the rowing supremo at Radley.

Gearing has two of his Radley rowers, Robbie Wendin and Charles Elwes, selected in the GB coxed four.

“We are taking a small team to Trakai but one which has already proved its form this year,” said Sir David Tanner, Britain’s team performance director about the squad which will race seven of the available 13 boat classes.

Henley Town and Visitors Regatta received a record entry, despite a reduced racing distance to 800m.

Wolfson College, with two men’s open fours wins, Abingdon RC, with two veteran men’s crew sculling successes, and City of Oxford, with two women’s sculling victories, were the top performing locals.

Individual wins for Green Templeton, in an eight, and St Edward’s and Tethys in single sculls raised the tally to nine.
