Wallingford were celebrating afterd picking up 12 victories after hosting the Long Distance sculls on Saturday.

The River Thames between Moulsford and Wallingford was a hive of activity as hundreds of rowers from all over the country competed in one of the first head races of the new season.

Six of Wallingford’s wins came from their veterans and one each from their Junior 16s, 15s and 14s.

The host club also won the men’s elite quads – in the fastest time of the day over the 4,250-metre course – and the women’s elite sculls.

Other local wins on the day came for City of Oxford, with double scull junior 15 wins for both their girls and boys, and one off successes for St Edward’s School and Hinksey.

Wallingford’s captain Caro-line Greaves said: “We’re really grateful to all our members and friends who supported the event brilliantly. “It’s also wonderful to see so many local people joining us to cheer on the racing. “We can’t promise such good weather for Wallingford Head of the River Race on December 8.
