HENRIETTA Knight is back at West Lockinge Farm, near Wantage, after breaking her right ankle and two bones in her leg in a freak accident.

The former three-time Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning trainer returned home on Saturday – a week after she was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, after slipping and banging her foot while rounding up geese by the duck pond.

She has an appointment today at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford, where she is hoping doctors will take out the stitches.

Knight, who suffered the injury only eight days after the funeral of her husband, Terry Biddlecombe, said: “I am improving, but I have got to have six weeks off my leg, so I am hopping about like a stork.

“A tremendous number of people have contacted me and asked about things.”

Meanwhile, Knight reported that her former star, Somersby, who is now trained by her close friend, Mick Channon, at West Ilsley, will head straight to the Cheltenham Festival for the BetVictor Champion Chase on Wednesday, March 12.

Sgt Reckless, the winner of a ‘jumpers’ bumper’ at Kempton Friday for Channon, is being aimed at the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.

And stablemates Knock House (Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle) and Loch Ba (Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup) are other possible Festival runners.

Channon was on the mark yesterday with Bridie Ffrench (10-1) at Kempton, with Willy Twiston-Davies on board.
