Victoria Pendleton recorded her first winner as a jockey aboard Pacha Du Polder in the Betfair Switching Saddles Hunters’ Chase at Wincanton today.

The dual Olympic cycling champion, who lives in Moreton, near Thame, was unshipped from Paul Nicholls’s charge on her first start under National Hunt Rules at Fakenham just under two weeks ago, but the duo made no mistake this time.

Sharply away, Pendleton ran out a wide-margin 29-length victor aboard the 5-4 favourite.

Pendleton said: “It was fantastic.

“I wanted to get round and give him a ride he deserved because Pacha Du Polder is a lovely horse.

“I feel very honoured and lucky to be allowed to ride such a wonderful animal.

“I was very frustrated (after Fakenham) but also I know that this sport is full of thrills and spills – that can happen, it’s racing.”

Pendleton must now wait to see if she goes to Cheltenham in a fortnight to ride in the Foxhunter Chase.

“I will be doing some point-to-points (this weekend) and then I’ll see what the experts around me decide and I’ll go with their choice.”
