OXFORD United have had a transfer fee accepted by Peterborough for Tyrone Barnett.

The bid was made at the start of the transfer window for the striker, who scored six goals in 12 starts while on loan at the U’s earlier this season.

The success of the move now depends on the 29-year-old, who has received interest from several other clubs in the Sky Bet Championship and League One.

Mark Ashton, United’s chief executive, would not disclose the level of the bid, He said: “I won’t identify the fee but I imagine it’s one of the larger ones the club has put in.

“The challenge we have is there are Championship and League One clubs that are potentially interested.

“We don’t believe it’s a question of salary package, it’s where he wants to play his football and in fairness you can understand it if there are Championship clubs interested.

“We are continuing to push on it and I’m in communication daily with Peterborough.”

United have made several other approaches for players as they look to strengthen the squad before the transfer window closes next Monday.

Joe Skarz became their first addition, joining on Saturday after being released by Rotherham United.
