JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink says Burton Albion want to make the Pirelli Stadium a “horrible place” for Oxford United tomorrow.

The Brewers have collected more points (35) at home than Michael Appleton’s men have earned in total this season.

United have lost just once in seven league games at Burton, but will have to play well if they are to emulate last season’s 2-0 victory in Staffordshire.

Tuesday’s goalless draw with AFC Wimbledon was the first time Hasselbaink had dropped points since taking over in November and the former Chelsea striker is enjoying making the Pirelli a cauldron.

  • Latest United news:

He told the Burton Mail: “In every league or every squad that you have your home form is one of the most important things in your season.

“Playing in front of your fans, the way you play, the majority of the successful teams get the majority of their points at home.

“It has to be a fortress.

“We are no different and we try to make this place a horrible place for other people to come to.

“At the moment we are liking playing here.”

Burton’s preparations have been hampered by the loss of striker Jacob Blyth, who has been the foil for Stuart Beavon, to a pulled thigh muscle.

Hasselbaink, who is looking to bring in another front man, said: “It’s a big blow for us – he was just getting his rhythm and a good link-up with Stuart.”
