OXFORD United have brought in Kemar Roofe on loan from West Bromwich Albion.

The 22-year-old, who can play on either flank, as an attacking midfielder or up front, has agreed an initial one-month switch.

The paperwork was completed this morning, meaning Roofe is available to make his U's debut away at Burton Albion tomorrow.

He said: "I know Oxford have seen me a few times and seem to like my playing style.

"They contacted the club and I was up for it from the start, I just want to play football."

Roofe was an unused substitute in August, when West Brom needed a penalty shoot-out to knock United out of the Capital One Cup at The Hawthorns.

He played against them in a development game last month, where the U's won 2-1.

Head coach Michael Appleton has known Roofe for several years and believes he will add quality to the squad's attacking unit.

He said: "I had him in my youth team at West Brom and is one of many players I worked with.

"He’s always looking to threaten the back line and he’s quick and very direct.

"Whether he starts or comes off the bench, he’s going to make an impact."

Roofe is the third player to sign this week, following George Baldock and Jeremy Balmy into the club.

But the Oxford Mail understands a proposed deal to bring in a free agent midfielder, which Appleton revealed on Tuesday night, will not now go ahead.
