AWAY supporters at the Kassam Stadium will not be moved next season after Oxford United considered a variety of alternatives.

Switching visiting fans to share the Oxford Mail Stand, or swapping ends in the North Stand were discussed, but rejected.

Kevin Smith, director of business operations at the U’s, said: “We didn’t feel it was appropriate to move current season ticket holders.

“Anything with flipping the North Stand or going into the East Stand would have done that.

“It’s a funny league, Morecambe might bring 50 fans on a Tuesday night and then the following Saturday you might have Wycombe, who could bring 2,000.

“The feeling logistically is keeping them where they are is the right decision.”

However, there will be a significant change in the North Stand, where United will sell season tickets in the area opposite the halfway line.

The location is sought-after in most grounds, but is often covered by netting at the Kassam Stadium to separate the two sets of supporters.

But it will now be made available to fans, providing they are happy to move for a handful of matches against sides who bring the largest away contingents.

Smith said: “We’re certainly looking to bring back block 25, opposite the directors’ box, for the vast majority of games as a home area.

“Season ticket holders in the North Stand will be able to move into the area, with the caveat that in the event of games against Portsmouth, Wycombe or Luton we might need them to relocate.

“We don’t want to assume they will want to move, but they are great seats.”
