OXFORD United winger Callum O'Dowda has been selected by Republic of Ireland Under 21s for two games next month.

The 20-year-old from Kidlington made his international debut in March and is in the squad for a friendly against Qatar, to be played at Bury's Gigg Lane on September 4.

It will act as a warm-up for their 2017 UEFA U21 Championships qualifier away to Andorra four days later.

As a result O'Dowda will miss United's Sky Bet League Two game at Bristol Rovers on September 6.

He said: “I have really enjoyed my time with the Ireland squad and am looking forward to the two games.

"It’s a great honour to be involved.”
