JAKE Wright has been ruled out of at least Oxford United’s next two games as he recovers from a back injury.

The U’s skipper suffered a back spasm which forced him off during the 3-2 defeat to Barnet just over three weeks ago.

Head coach Michael Appleton is preparing to be without the centre back for tomorrow night’s Emirates FA Cup tie with Braintree Town and the trip to Dagenham & Redbridge in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday.

He said: “Jake certainly won’t be involved on Tuesday and I’d be very surprised if he was involved on Saturday.

“The following Tuesday (at home to Newport County) he may have a bit more of a look-in, but I’m not expecting him to be involved this week at any point.”

Wright’s absence means Chey Dunkley will continue alongside stand-in captain Johnny Mullins.

Their next task is to beat Braintree in the FA Cup, with a home game against Forest Green Rovers awaiting the winners in the second round.

Having faced the Iron only ten days ago, Appleton has a good idea of what to expect.

He said: “It is easier, but it’s a completely different game in a sense they’ve had a good look at us.

“We’re now the home team, both sides have had good results since playing each other so go into the game full of confidence.

“It’s a great opportunity for Braintree to cause an upset, they know they’ve got a home fixture if they are good enough to see us off.

“There’s massive incentive for both teams and one we’re looking forward to.”
