OXFORD United have concerns over Wes Thomas and Joe Skarz after the pair were stretchered off to provide the only sour notes to the 4-1 win against Coventry City.

They were carried off in the space of 15 minutes in the second half at the Kassam Stadium.

Skarz is believed to have been knocked out after a clash of heads with Chey Dunkley, shortly after Thomas came off.

The striker’s issue looks more serious, with United suspecting he may have seriously damaged an Achilles tendon.

U’s boss Michael Appleton said: “I don’t want to say too much in case I get it wrong, but it looked like Joe was knocked out.

“It possibly even happened before he hit the ground.

“In terms of Wes it looks like he’ll be going to hospital immediately.

“It doesn’t look great, possibly he has ruptured his Achilles, we’ll have to wait and see over the next 24 hours.”

Skarz's stay in hospital was brief, with the left back tweeting this evening:

The double loss could not stop United romping to a convincing victory, which was the side’s first in five Sky Bet League One games.

For Appleton, everything stemmed from a fast start.

He said: “It’s no concidence when we start on the front foot and get about teams we certainly can put a performance in like we did in the first half.

“I know it was only 3-0 at half-time, but it could have quite easily been five or six.”
