CANICE Carroll will be available for Oxford United tomorrow despite captaining Republic of Ireland’s under 19s in Spain yesterday.

The U’s gained special dispensation from the Football Association of Ireland to delay the full back’s trip to La Manga.

It meant Carroll was named as a substitute for Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat at Rotherham United, after which he flew out to meet up with the rest of the squad.

Having missed the first friendly against Romania’s under 19s, a 1-0 loss, he skippered the side to a 2-1 victory against the same opposition in Murcia.

And the 19-year-old, who has made 16 appearances for United this season, will complete a hectic few days by travelling back in time to be in tomorrow’s squad to face Plymouth Argyle.

  • OXFORD United’s under 18s will get a chance to play for silverware at the Kassam Stadium next month.

The youth team are through to the final of the EFL Youth Alliance Southern League Cup, where they will host Luton Town on Saturday, March 31 (11am).

While they normally play at Northcourt Road, Abingdon, United have secured permission for the game to be played on the bigger stage.
