Oxford United go back to the top

Oxford United returned to the top of the Blue Square Premier despite being held to a 0-0 draw by Kidderminster at the Kassam Stadium, because Stevenage were beaten 1-0 at Tamworth.

The U's missed four good chances, with Jamie Cook, Sam Deering and Jack Midson, twice, missing opportunities with just the keeper to beat. James Constable had a frustrating afternoon, continually getting caught offside, and he picked up his tenth yellow card, which means an immediate two-match suspension. Full details in Match Reports

One point from the last six available at home. is hardly champions form. Very disappointing afternoon, all the chances and not one conversion. Tactics were wrong, we need to win home games if we are to succeed and it is not helped by playing one up front at the start. The trouble is that we need someone scoring goals, Constable has gone quiet and there is no-one else to be relied on to score. Lets hope we can stun Luton and get all three points.

Dreadful performance, we couldnt pass to other yellow shirts but every time we got in good positions we passed to their keeper, you cant call them shots as he never actually had a save to make. Why in heavens name were the scorers of 4 goals in the last 2 games, f & m green and midson not in the starting team, f green not even in the squad? Beano must also improve his discipline, he gets frustrated and loses it far too often for my liking, yes the ref was worse than dreadful but you have to remember that arguing only gets you in the book, they never ever change their minds. Clarke is a good keeper but his distribution is quite shocking at times, Wright looks a liability, Potter and Deering far too small for the task they were given tho Deering won a few headers to his credit, Cook looked far from fit, in my opinion only Day, Clist and Tonkin looked anything like footballers, even the pitch was in an awful state, i remember the manor never looked or played so bad that we had to resort to keepie uppie as much as we did today. In my opinion the 1 solitary point was more than we deserved, thank heavens Kiddy were woefull too or it would have been worse.

Couldn't agree more Richard!!!!!

This performance wasnt a suprise we had been poor for a good few games the wins in the cup against lower league opposition may i add have just papered over the cracks!

I must admit Im very confused with our situation, Wilder before say Christmas time was making every decision right now he doesnt seem to make one right. Looking at him in the dugout he looks lost to me very reminiscant of Patterson and we all know how that turned out don't we?

My big worry is that there is nothing on the pitch or anything coming out of the club that suggests to me that we will pick up many points from now till the 25th of April. I know we didnt concede today but what has it done to morale and team spirit by changing 3 of the back four granted Kiinighburgh was injured so he had to change him. Foster was treated appaulingly and i do just wonder whether things like this have damaged team spirit and affected form.

We have seen this before haven't we this is very like the season when Jim was in charge and sadly I can't see this not mirroring what happened in that season.

Oxford fail to win and what a surprise some people are straight on here with laughably over the top negative reaction. "Only 3 of our players look like footballers", "Wilder is just like Patterson". You two must be great company. Do you think we have enough points to stay up?...

Yes we will stay up BUT on current form we wont be in the play off's let alone Champions, that was the aim this season and i do think CW is a good manager when coming from behind but he really doesnt seem to know what to do when his team had led the League since 18th August, why did he feel the need to change so much, i was never Fozzie's biggest fan but Wright looks abyssmal altho Day is class. He played Deering and Potter in the same team at last but then had them chained a few feet apart instead of running down opposite wings, a complete waste of their talents. We then play head the ball and keepie uppie but dont have the height in the entire team to make it work, i stand by my comments, the way we are looking at the moment the end of the season will be pretty miserable ALTHOUGH most of the players have shown they can play a bit so take off the shackles Chris, ditch the nervous attitude and lets go back to what we were doing before the enforced break, winning games. Luton will be a huge test and Histon next week tough as well on current form but we will only get what we deserve, lets hope its 2 WINS.

Yes Hugh, most wins and best goal difference BUT did we add to either against Kidderminster? What they have acheived so far this season is great but is history! It what we continue to do for the rest of the season that will decide our destiny and as a supporter since 1959 am still hoping we get it sorted. Time will tell and i am not being negative, just responding to what i see on the pitch and the managers reactions as he stands in the Technical Area, sorry to say it didnt inspire me to have confidence.

a Ps Hugh, did Kidderminster up their game? NO, they were no where near as good as when they beat us at Aggborough, i was there and today they were woeful too! There for the taking and we failed. If the team give me hope and inspire confidence i will respond accordingly BUT what they showed on Saturday did nothing to make me believe this season will finish better than the last few. One positive ? We won! be relegated this season.

Richard - how can you deny that you are being negative when you say you doubt we'll get in the playoffs and that the end of the season will be pretty miserable... Also if you honestly believe that nothing of this season so far counts for anything (I disagree on that opinion!) then by the same token your regular reminder of "I've been a supporter since 1959" doesnt mean anything either. Get behind the team and the best manager we've had in years and years can't you? Yesterday was a bad day at the office and far from a disaster anyway, end of, get over it and move on to the next game without all the doom and gloom!

My feeling on yesterdays game was confirmed by the Non League Paper this morning, why was Beano always off side? when you look at the stats of all teams in the BSQ'P Oxford were the only team to be in double figures for 'off side'. And from what I remember they were all Beano, most teams were caught off side 3 - 5 times, so why does Beano wander around behind the oppositions defence on the hope that one may walk back and make him 'on side' from the top of the North Stand you can see he is sitting 'off side' and you can see the ball is coming that way, what a waste of an attack, Beano in my opinion can out muscle and out pace these defenders so level would be good enough, also none of his goals this season have come from this route, as I say wasted attack. Also the stats show that Kiddy had 51% of the game, so what happened to us holding the game and patient attacks, these days are gone, my feeling is CW is not sure what his best side is right now or what formation to play, lets see less swapping and changing and a more consistant team as we started the season with. No disrespect to CW as I still feel we have what it takes, just my observations. J

Just looking back at last few league games you can't tell me that Grays, Tamworth or Kiddie added 30 or 40%. Grays were sunday league standard at best and Tamworth werent much better. Kiddie were appauling yesterday compared to what i saw off them at ther place.

I don't think people are being negatively unjustly. Yes up till now we have done very well but sadly playing well up till Xmas doies not win you the league.

People have a go at people being negative but ther no point in being over positive when were poor at the mo. If you praise performances like this then the players are going to think that standard of performance is ok.

We are all entitled to our opinion and when you pay your money were all entitled to clap and praise or have a rant when were doing badly. Just because people are not applauding and praising poor performances doesnt mean that ther not supporters.

Lets hope we improve against Luton. I think Beano is out for it suspended and i dont think its a bad thing hes out. Hes starting to believe his own hype and getting very arrogant. Im sick of his constant moaning. Wilder needs to sit him down and explain to him to play football and shut his gob.

My final comment please wilder tell the players that in a game we can let the ball touch the ground. Lets play some football keep it on the floor more and stop this hit and hope rubbish. Pass to feet for goodness sake.

We agree on a lot of that, Hugh. But we are both and all entitled to our opinion and to voice it and therefore will agree at times and disagree at others. I am sure we both and all want to see OU promoted and that is all that matters. My worry and i have voiced it is that many more performances like saturdays and we wont get up, lets be thankful that Tamworth took 3 points off Stevenage tho York are now getting dangerously close, the 2 games in hand are becoming ever more important and its imperative that normal business is resumed pdq. Also i didnt say that what was achieved before Christmas counts for nothing, its points in the bank and of course they count at the end of the season but we did have stability then and dont seem to now, the recent team sheets bare this out. Whatever happens i am 100% sure we will both be discussing things next season no matter where we are!

agreed again & iv also pointed out in previous debates about our defence! losing fozzie in my opinion was not a good move regardless of whether CW & him got along or not!
but its basically the same for every1 in this league & the closer the finishing line gets the more anxious the fans will get too!
all teams, managers, players, & supporters are going to feel the heat in the run in & im no different, but the one thing thats needed at this time of the season is complete unity to the course regardless of how we play! results win you things not always performances & trust me it aint gonna be pretty football over the next few weeks thats for sure! I'll personally be over the moon with 0 v 0 score on tuesday night as luton will be desperate for the win with games running out fast!
35 points from our remaining games will give us 95, im pretty sure that will be more than we need & enough to put us back where we belong! but like i said this aint gonna br pretty & there aint gonna be no champaign footie thats for sure lol, but 1 thing is guarenteed & thats ''no finger nails left''!!! exciting aint it!!!

Yes, we have moved to top spot. But NOT in the way we should have!!!
We had so many chances to win this game & could not put the ball into the back of the net.
CW, stated we will do the double. Not on this display sir.
We meet Luton on Tuesday, I am sure CW will have the team in for plenty of training & I hope how to score. Having JC booked does not do our plans any favours.
We will need to raise our game on Tuesday. They are NOT the same outfit & have a much better management than the team we beat 2-0 at our place. It is all getting a little tight, we must win our home games & the outstanding matches.
CW, needs to reminded, we can't win if we don't score.

If you whinge then you aren't a proper fan, I was there yesterday and how many of our shots were saved? All of them so if there not shots on target what are. I am not a deluded fan and I am not complaining. People who support Man Utd will ALWAYS be behind the lads, nothing changes, if we win or draw we're never satisfied. Keep believing because I do.

The reason so many shots were saved, is because they either went straight to their keeper, or umpteen number of crosses could have been caught by the poorest of goal keepers. Clarke made the only real stop of the game late in the second half. Posters on this site or not necessarily whingers, they are 100% United fans, purely looking for a positive performance.

All I can add to this thread is that York and Stevenage fans must be pi**ing themselves reading it, talk about fickle fans, a true fan gets behind their team, good or bad performance, the time for negativity and dissension is at the end of the season if it doesn't end the way we all wish it to.

Of course its upto you to decide whos a fan and whos not. What an arrogant pillick you are!

On the saving aspect im no goalie but if i had conceded yesterday i would be very dissapointed. The shooting especially from the oxford players were woeful at best. Kidderminster could of put our mascot in goal and they would still of not conceded.
