Malcolm Crosby
Malcolm Crosby is to leave his role at Oxford United at the end of his contract.
The former U’s assistant manager, who helped guide the club to promotion alongside Denis Smith in 1996, returned to the club last May as head of recruitment/youth development.
Crosby, who worked in a scouting capacity, said that Oxford would always be a club he holds much affection for.
“I have really enjoyed my time back at the club,” he said. “It is a club that will always be close to my heart.
“I will be looking at both scouting and coaching opportunities going forward and look forward to coming back to Oxford.
“I wish the club nothing but the best for the future.”
Chairman Kelvin Thomas added: “We thank Malcolm for his hard work.
“He has a wealth of experience in the game and we know that he will be pursuing other options.
“He will always be welcome at Oxford United.”
Crosby enjoyed a brief stint as caretaker manager of United at the Manor Ground at the end of 1997, having in 1991 taken Sunderland to the FA Cup final, also as a caretaker manager.
He enjoyed spells as assistant manager at York, Middlesbrough and Northampton, among others.
* UNITED’S League Two fixture at home to Morecambe has been brought forward from Easter Saturday to Good Friday, March 29 (3pm).

Unfortunately, Oxford United seem to be getting rid of players and staff without replacing them. This hardly seems to be a step in the right direction.
If the owner, chairman and manager are pinning their (promotion) hopes on the return of Alfie Potter and the signing of a striker from Port Vale, they will be very disappointed. We have to start signing some decent players and recriting ambitious coaching staff now.
It is a disgrace that the loyal fans at Oxford United are paying good money to watch a team, that can't even better the achievements of
much smaller clubs like Stevenage and Crewe. Where is the pride and passion amongst the people who run our club?
It would be interesting to read what owner Mr Lenegan is planning to improve the club's future. Does the Oxford Mail have a reporter who cpuld contact this elusive man for an interview? Many fans, i'm sure want to know just how ambitious Mr Lenegan is about our (and his) club.

Of course we need a really good chief scout.
Perhaps, despite his likely gentlemanly pleasant demeanour, Mr Crosby's performance was not good enough and IL is looking for someone who does much much better in spotting good players than Malcolm did

You need to get either a ground share going, but Rugby will churn up the surface especially when the wet weather sets in, or, move out and go somewhere else, although the prospects of that are limited.
Your neighbours down the A420 have just signed six decent players over the last week, shows ambition, desire and passion. You guys need to get on your owners back, to start showing some of the same, or you will undoubtedly start slipping down the table again, something you don't want I would suspect.

Too many of the above comments are just a whinge. The real point around Malcom Crosby's departure is to do with the youth policy. OUFC must be up there with the best. We must scout the top local boys. This means an excellent chief scout.
What's the point of a decent youth policy at the club? How many youth players last season actually got to play first team football? How many successful youth team players have Oxford United produced in the last 10 years?
What Oxford United need is to start to organise the club better. We need to make sure that the players we have are on top of their game. We need commitment from people who want to be successful. The playing staff are the responsibility of Chris Wilder, but he needs financial back up from Thomas and Lenegan.
You don't need to spend a fortune on coaching staff. A lot of quality retired pro's would jump at the opportunity to coach for a resonable fee. Surely there must be an old established pro out there who could teach Beano and co. how to score consistently score.
