Ardley United provided a major upset when they dumped Slough Town out of the FA Cup at Holloways Park on Saturday to progress to the second qualifying round for the first time.

Goals from Luke Ingram and Gavin Kidd gave the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division club an historic 2-1 victory and a place in today’s draw.

Slough, historically one of the big names of non-league football, have fallen down the rankings in recent years – playing in the Southern League Premier Division – but it’s still a notable scalp for Kevin Brock’s side.

Ardley were boosted by the addition of Luke Ingram, who was in eligible for the midweek replay win over Hartley Wintney, and new signing Ricky Johnson, from Brackley Town.

Early James Dobson, who proved to be a handful for the Ardley defence, set up Smith, but Tommy Kinch whipped the ball off his toes. Ardley keeper Jack Harding then pulled off a brilliant save to deny George Frith.

The visitors took the lead against the run of play in the 28th minute when Callum Convey’s pass allowed Ingram to outpace the back line and fire past keeper Jake Somerville .

Slough had the ball in the Ardley net just before half time, but it was ruled out for offside.

Then just before the break, Smith drew another good save from Harding.

The hosts equalised seven minutes the break when Dobson was brought down in the area, and fired home the resultant penalty.

After resisting more pressure, Ardley regained the lead after a 65th-minute corner.

Johnson headed goalwards, only to see his effort blocked, but the ball rebounded to Kidd, who forced it home for his first goal since joining from Wantage Town.

Ardley defended resolutely, with Harding producing a smart save to deny substitute Daryll Thomas with Dobson putting the follow-up shot wide.

Although spending the final minutes in their own half defending, Ardley hung on for a famous win.
